 The Programs:
Our Farm Life programs are designed for age groups 5-8 and 9-12, with the 9-12 sessions providing more detailed instruction. Each session is offered independently, so your child may attend either or both sessions, depending on his or her interests.

Farm Life — Agriculture:  In this session, children will be introduced to a working farm.  A guided nature hike will highlight the agricultural environment, including identifying insects, both good and bad, and a discussion of their role in the growing process. In the afternoon, campers will plant their own seeds and work together to create a vegetable garden.  Other activities may include a hayride through the farm, making ice cream, and sluicing for gems.

Farm Life — Animal Care:  In this session, children meet an assortment of farm animals at the petting zoo.  More detailed activities will include discussions on raising sheep and chickens, and egg and wool production. Projects may include dying wool and making a bird nesting ball. A guided nature hike will focus on local wildlife, including livestock predators. Throughout the day, campers will have the opportunity to take a hayride through the farm, make ice cream, and sluice for fossils.

Farm Day & Adult Workshop:  This session will run in conjunction with the day camp for the children. An adult workshop, Wreath Decorating For All Seasons, with instruction by Sue Huffman, our award winning wreath making expert.  (See examples of Sue’s work on our website at http://joestrees.com/wreaths).

While parents attend the workshop, children will be offered a more general Farm Life course that will include both Animal and Agricultural activities.  In the afternoon, parents and children will work together on a farm-related project. (It is not necessary for a parent to attend the workshop for children to attend the Farm Day session).

Activities may be modified due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
